Farm section

The section is headed by the Farm Manager. The farm generally is there to introduce modern intensive and diverse commercial farming operation in council. It is a council initiative to enhance council’s revenue base to enable it to carry out its mandate without depending more on rate payers. The farm currently houses above 60 cattle. Investment opportunities are piggery, poultry, meat processing, stock breeding and cropping.

The cattle project is also running in tandem with a horticulture project which aims at harnessing sewer water or effluent from contaminating the Limpopo River through the growing of crops and gum trees. The available irrigating water that is full of nutrients will help produce different type of crops. This will economically empower the community at grass roots level and enhance their nutritional requirements, improve food security at household level, improve the Council`s revenue base, hence improve service delivery. So far more than 3000 gum trees have been planted and are doing well.
